Francisco Alvarez, 24-year-old Mets catcher, suffered a right knee meniscus tear on May 13, 2026, while fouling off a pitch in the sixth inning against the Tigers. MRI imaging confirmed the injury, and he was placed on the 10-day injured list with an expected recovery timeline of 6-8 weeks (late June to early July return). Surgery is required to repair the meniscus. At the time of injury, Alvarez was batting .241/.317/.393 with 4 home runs and a 105 wRC+ in 128 plate appearances. Luis Torrens will assume primary catching duties with Hayden Senger as backup. This is the third meniscus tear suffered by a Mets player in 2026.
