Shane Baz, acquired by the Baltimore Orioles in December for four prospects and a 2026 Competitive Balance Round A pick, then signed to a five-year, $68 million extension in March (largest pitcher contract in franchise history), has struggled significantly through eight starts. With a 1-4 record and 5.48 ERA, Baz allowed five runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings in a loss to the Athletics on May 9, 2026. Over his last five outings, he has been tagged for at least four earned runs in four of them, posting a 6.04 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and 25:14 K:BB ratio over 28.1 innings. The Orioles' significant investment in Baz has not yet paid dividends, and the organization may already be regretting the trade.
