Scouting Report

Updated May 20, 2026

Cubs right-hander Hunter Harvey has suffered a setback in his recovery from triceps inflammation, with an MRI revealing a stress reaction in his triceps area. Harvey will be out of action for at least another month. His last game was April 8, and he's already missed over a month of action. Harvey has a history of injuries throughout his career, having tossed only 189 innings over 186 games since his 2019 MLB debut. In 2025, he pitched only 10 2/3 innings with the Royals due to a teres major strain and Grade 2 adductor strain. The Cubs signed him to a one-year, $6.5MM deal, but he posted a 6.75 ERA over four innings before the triceps issue arose.

Strengths

  • + Solid career ERA of 3.07 when healthy (2022-25 with Nationals/Royals)
  • + 27.4% strikeout rate demonstrates strong strikeout ability
  • + 6.5% walk rate shows good control
  • + 161 1/3 innings of productive pitching from 2022-25

Weaknesses

  • - Career plagued by frequent injuries limiting availability
  • - Stress reaction in triceps requires extended recovery (at least 1 month additional)
  • - Poor early 2026 performance with Cubs (6.75 ERA over 4 innings)
  • - Only 189 innings pitched over 186 games since 2019 debut
  • - Multiple injuries in 2025 (teres major strain, Grade 2 adductor strain)
  • - Likely to be moved to 60-day IL soon
  • - Injury history raises durability concerns despite solid performance when available

Injury Status: IL-15
