Scouting Report
Updated May 20, 2026
JR Ritchie, 22-year-old right-handed pitcher and Atlanta Braves' No. 2 prospect (35th overall pick in 2022), was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on May 19, 2026, following a disappointing outing against Miami Marlins (6 ER in 4 IP). However, manager Walt Weiss clarified the demotion was not performance-based but rather a roster management decision to carry an extra reliever with the rotation now healthy. Ritchie had an impressive MLB debut on April 23 against Washington (7 IP, 2 R, 7 K) and won International League Pitcher of the Month for April with a 0.38 ERA in Triple-A. His MLB record stands at 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA (5.72 FIP), 1.48 WHIP, 21 K, 16 BB in 25.2 IP across 5 starts. He has shown flashes of brilliance mixed with struggles against left-handed hitters.
