Scouting Report

Updated May 20, 2026

Gleyber Torres, 29-year-old three-time All-Star second baseman for the Detroit Tigers, was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 6, 2026 (retroactive to May 4) due to a left oblique strain. He departed Saturday's game against Texas in the third inning after being thrown out at home plate. Before the injury, Torres was performing well offensively with a .259/.389/.328 batting line and wRC+ of 111 (11% above league average). He leads the team with 25 walks and is drawing walks at a career-best 17.4% rate. However, he has only 2 home runs in 32 games. As of May 18, manager A.J. Hinch indicated Torres is still day-to-day and not yet ready for a rehab assignment, despite completing on-field work. The injury comes at a difficult time for the Tigers, who are dealing with multiple infield injuries (Trey Sweeney shoulder strain, Javier Báez ankle sprain, Zach McKinstry recently returned from hip/abdominal inflammation).

Injury Status: IL-10 -- Left oblique strain, retroactive to May 4, 2026. Suffered injury on May 2 during game against Texas when thrown out at home plate. Diagnosed as mild strain. Previously missed 10 games early last season with same injury. As of May 18, not yet ready for rehab assignment despite on-field drills (ground balls, light hitting).
