Scouting Report
Updated May 20, 2026
Zach McKinstry was activated from the injured list after sustaining a Grade 3 oblique tear off the pelvic bone on April 15 against the Royals. The injury resulted from three separate collisions during the same game, including a violent head-first slide into home plate. Despite the severity of the injury (typically requiring 6-8 weeks recovery), McKinstry recovered in just a few weeks due to the unique nature of the injury location. A specialist indicated it was the best possible place for such an injury to occur, as it did not involve baseball-specific movements like swinging or throwing. McKinstry was able to throw immediately post-injury and reached 80% sprint speed by Day 6. He was reinstated and returned to the Tigers' lineup batting eighth and playing third base.
