Drew Romo, a switch-hitting catcher for the Chicago White Sox, has emerged as an unlikely power source for the team in 2026. Called up from Triple-A Charlotte on April 25, Romo has made an immediate impact with 4 home runs in 27 at-bats (.148 BA, .414 OBP, 1.014 OPS). All three of his career home runs came this season, including becoming the first White Sox catcher to homer from both sides of the plate on April 28. Despite going 0-for-6 with 2 walks in his last two starts, Romo has taken over as the preferred catcher ahead of Edgar Quero, starting 5 of the last 6 games against right-handed pitchers. Originally a first-round draft pick of the Rockies, Romo was DFA'd by the Mets in early February after being claimed off waivers, then signed by the White Sox on January 8. He was previously waived by both the Orioles and Rockies in 2025.
