Scouting Report
Updated May 20, 2026
Ben Rice, New York Yankees first baseman, suffered a left-hand contusion in Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles while fielding a pickoff throw. He has missed multiple games (at least 3 straight) but tests came back negative. The injury is considered minor and non-serious. Rice is expected to return soon, potentially as early as Friday's series opener against the Brewers. Before the injury, Rice was having an exceptional 2026 season, leading the AL in batting average (.343) and all of MLB in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS (1.214). He has 12 home runs, 27 RBI, 30 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases in 33 games played (108 at-bats). Manager Aaron Boone described him as a "wrecking ball" and emphasized the team's offense is significantly better with Rice in the lineup.
