Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Addison Barger, 26-year-old Toronto Blue Jays outfielder/infielder, has had a disastrous 2026 season marked by recurring injuries. After missing 25 games with bilateral ankle issues (left ankle sprain), he was activated on May 9 and made an immediate impact defensively with a 101.2 mph throw to home plate. However, he was placed back on the 10-day IL just one day later due to right elbow joint inflammation. MRI confirmed no structural damage. He received a cortisone injection and will be shut down for 3-4 days with optimism for a brief stint. At the plate, Barger has struggled significantly with a .045-.053 batting average and .174-.305 OPS in 23-28 plate appearances. This marks a sharp decline from his breakout 2025 season when he hit 21 homers with a .765 OPS and excelled in the postseason.
Strengths
- + Elite defensive arm strength (101.2 mph outfield throw - hardest by Blue Jays position player since 2015)

- + Strong postseason performance in 2025
- + No structural damage confirmed on elbow MRI
- + Manager optimistic about brief IL stint
- + Versatility (can play third base and right field)
Injury Status: IL-10
