Alex Freeland was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on May 11, 2026, to make room for Mookie Betts' return from a strained oblique injury. Freeland started 31 of the Dodgers' first 40 games at second base but struggled offensively, hitting .235/.309/.337 with an 86 wRC+ and a 28.6% strikeout rate. Manager Dave Roberts cited Hyeseong Kim's superior performance (.289/.353/.395, 114 wRC+) as the reason for the demotion, though he praised Freeland's defense, professionalism, and recent improvement in getting on base.
