José Caballero, Yankees shortstop, suffered a right middle finger fracture while sliding into a base against the Milwaukee Brewers on May 10, 2026. He was placed on the 10-day IL on May 13. Caballero indicated he expects to return within 10 days maximum and won't throw for 5-7 days but can field in the meantime. He can bend his finger and is only wearing a compression bandage. Manager Aaron Boone promised him the starting shortstop role upon return. Prior to injury, Caballero was performing well with a .259/.320/.400 line (105 wRC+), 13 stolen bases, strong defensive grades, and 4 home runs in 125 at-bats.
