Yariel Rodriguez, a 29-year-old Cuban right-handed pitcher, was recalled by the Toronto Blue Jays from Triple-A Buffalo to address injuries in their rotation and bullpen. Rodriguez signed a five-year, $32 million contract with Toronto prior to the 2024 season. In 2024, he posted a 4.47 ERA over 21 starts (86.2 IP) with a 23.1% strikeout rate and concerning 10.9% walk rate. In 2025, he transitioned to relief and posted a 3.08 ERA over 73 innings (66 appearances) with a 22.1% strikeout rate and 11.4% walk rate. His fastball velocity improved to 95.7 mph in relief (from 93.9 mph as a starter). Rodriguez benefited from a .228 BABIP and 81.2% strand rate in 2025, with a more realistic 4.27 SIERA. He limited hard contact but allowed 8 home runs in 73 frames. Rodriguez is being given another opportunity to establish himself in the majors after spending early 2026 in the minor leagues.
