Scouting Report
Updated May 20, 2026
Carlos Santana, 40-year-old first baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks, suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from a right groin/adductor strain on May 10-11, 2026. Originally injured on April 5 against the Atlanta Braves, Santana was progressing through a Triple-A rehab assignment with the Reno Aces when he re-injured the same adductor area during his seventh rehab game. He felt a twinge in the injured area while playing for Reno and was pulled from the game. Manager Torey Lovullo confirmed the setback, noting Santana had been working hard to return and had recently hit a home run. This injury setback is expected to become Santana's longest absence since his rookie season in 2010. Prior to the injury, Santana struggled offensively, hitting .083 with a .279 OPS in 8 games, and showed poor defensive metrics (-2 DRS, -2 OAA, -2 FRV).
Strengths

- + Signed as free agent to provide solid defense at first base
- + Veteran presence with 17-year MLB career
- + Previous season (2025) showed 11 home runs and 54 RBIs across two teams
Injury Status: IL-60
