34-year-old veteran right-hander Carl Edwards Jr. signed a minor-league contract with the Detroit Tigers on May 8, 2026, and was assigned to Triple-A Toledo. Edwards was recently designated for assignment by the New York Mets on April 30 after making two impressive appearances (6 innings, 1 ER, 11 K). He has 12 years of MLB experience across 9 teams and was a key member of the 2016 World Series champion Chicago Cubs. Currently working as a reliever/long relief option, though the Tigers may stretch him out as a starter in Triple-A. His recent Triple-A performance with Syracuse was concerning (5.29 ERA, 11 walks, 13 strikeouts over 17 innings in 4 starts), but his brief Mets stint showed promise.
