Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Joey Bart, 29-year-old Pirates catcher, was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 12, 2026, with a left foot infection (retroactive to May 10). The infection was not game-related but rather developed from the typical sweating and dirt exposure in professional baseball. Director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk indicated there is no timetable for return, with treatment involving IV antibiotics. Bart was batting .259/.290/.379 with a .669 OPS over 21 games at the time of injury, but had shown significant improvement in May, slashing .412/.412/.588 (1.000 OPS) over five games with seven hits in 17 at-bats. He had just gone 4-for-5 with 2 RBI against his former team (Giants) on May 9, his best game of the season. Bart had been earning increased playing time due to recent offensive success after struggling in April (.194 BA). Henry Davis will take over primary catching duties with Endy Rodriguez called up for depth.
