Scouting Report
Updated May 20, 2026
Roman Anthony, 21-year-old Boston Red Sox outfielder, was placed on the 10-day IL on May 7, 2026, with a sprained right wrist and hand injury (sprained ligament near right ring finger) suffered during an at-bat against Detroit on May 4. Initial X-rays were negative for structural damage. Anthony is in his sophomore season after signing an 8-year, $130M contract last year. He's struggling offensively with a .229/.354/.321 line through 130 plate appearances (down from .292/.396/.463 as a rookie). This is his second IL stint in as many seasons, having missed most of September and the wild-card playoff series last year with an oblique strain. Manager Chad Tracy indicated Anthony likely won't exceed the 10-day minimum, with Anthony optimistic about returning immediately upon eligibility on May 15. Anthony has not swung a bat since the injury and is wearing a protective brace.
