Gage Workman was called up by the Detroit Tigers from Triple-A Toledo after a strong start to the 2026 season. Workman entered the promotion hitting .358 with a 1.003 OPS, 4 home runs, 28 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases in 35 games. He was promoted to replace Kerry Carpenter on the injured list. In his first MLB game with the Tigers, Workman hit a pinch-hit, go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning to help Detroit defeat Kansas City 6-3 and snap a five-game losing streak. The 26-year-old switch-hitter (now hitting left-handed full-time) has simplified his swing and significantly reduced his strikeout rate to 23.3%, down from previous seasons. Workman previously played 12 games in MLB with the Cubs (9 games) and White Sox (3 games) in 2025 before being returned to the Tigers organization.
