Scouting Report
Updated May 20, 2026
Gage Workman was called up to the Detroit Tigers from Triple-A Toledo after Kerry Carpenter was placed on the 10-day IL with a left AC joint sprain. Workman entered the promotion hitting .358 with a 1.003 OPS, 4 home runs, 28 RBI and 12 stolen bases at Toledo. He made an immediate impact in his Tigers debut with a two-out, two-run pinch-hit home run in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and lead Detroit to a 6-3 victory over Kansas City. The 6-foot-4 switch-hitter-turned-lefty has significantly reduced his strikeout rate to 23.3% after simplifying his swing and eliminating the leg kick. Workman brings elite athleticism, defensive versatility on the left side of the infield, and newfound plate discipline after a long journey through the minors and Rule 5 process.
