Scouting Report
Updated May 20, 2026
Cole Ragans, 28-year-old All-Star left-hander for the Kansas City Royals, was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 7 due to left elbow impingement (Valgus Extension Overload/VEO or "pitcher's elbow"). Ragans felt discomfort during a Wednesday start against Cleveland, pitching only 3 innings before exiting. He received a lubricant injection and will be shut down for 3-4 days before resuming baseball activities. Manager Matt Quatraro expects a minimal IL stay. Ragans has undergone Tommy John surgery twice previously but was relieved to learn there is no structural damage. His 2026 ERA stands at 4.84 through limited starts, down from his strong 3.14 ERA in 2024. The injury comes after he missed significant time in 2025 due to groin and rotator cuff strains.
