Jackson Rutledge, the 17th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, was designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals on May 5, 2026, to make roster space for Max Kranick. The 6'8", 240-pound right-hander has struggled significantly in his MLB career. In 2026, he appeared in just one game for Washington, allowing 7 earned runs in 1.1 innings against Pittsburgh on April 13. He was subsequently optioned to Triple-A Rochester, where he posted a 3.38 ERA over 13.1 innings. In 2025, his first full season in the majors, Rutledge appeared in 71 games with a 5.77 ERA across 63 outings, demonstrating inconsistency and poor performance. Despite draft pedigree and a fastball in the 94-95 mph range, his stuff has proven to be highly hittable throughout his career. The Phillies claimed him off waivers and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
