Scouting Report: Shawn Dubin
Arizona Diamondbacks | RP
Overall
Summary
Caleb Durbin, acquired by the Boston Red Sox in an offseason trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, has struggled significantly in his sophomore season. Through 43 games, he is slashing .165-.169/.247-.252/.245-.250 with only 1 home run and 14 RBIs. He started the season 0-19 at the plate and has been benched in favor of Triple-A call-up Nick Sogard. The Red Sox are implementing a platoon system at third base to manage his struggles. While there are some signs of improvement late in April/early May, Durbin remains in the bottom 10th percentile in hard-hit percentage (29.3%) and average exit velocity (84.8 mph). He is mentally struggling with the regression from his stellar rookie year when he finished third in NL Rookie of the Year voting.
Strengths
- Defensive excellence at third base
- Showed ability to pull the ball in the air at 20.4% pull air percentage in 2025
