Scouting Report: A.J. Causey
Athletics | SP
Overall
Summary
A.J. Minter, 32-year-old left-handed reliever for the Mets, was placed on the 15-day IL prior to Opening Day 2026 while recovering from March 2025 surgery on his left lat. He began a minor-league rehab assignment in early April and appeared healthy through eight appearances (7 2/3 innings, 1-0, 1.17 ERA). However, he was pulled from his rehab assignment in early May when he experienced left hip discomfort. The Mets are not overly concerned about the hip issue. As of May 10, Minter has resumed bullpen sessions and is expected to throw additional sessions before being considered for game action. His velocity has been inconsistent (91-94 mph), and it remains unclear whether the hip issue contributed to the velocity variations. Minter is bouncing back from the hip injury and appears to be progressing toward a return.
Strengths
- Completed bullpen session on Saturday (May 10)
- Rehab assignment showed strong performance (1-0, 1.17 ERA over 8 appearances)
