Scouting Report: Alec Barger
Chicago Cubs | RP
Overall
Summary
Addison Barger, 26-year-old Blue Jays infielder/outfielder, has had a disastrous 2026 season marked by multiple injuries. After missing 33 days with a right ankle sprain, he was activated and returned to play on May 9, 2026, making an immediate impact with a 101.2 mph throw to cut down a runner at home. However, just one game into his return, he developed right elbow inflammation and was placed back on the 10-day IL on May 10. The elbow issue may be related to the high-velocity throw. Barger started the season 1-for-19 with a .045 batting average and .305 OPS before the injury. In 2025, he was a productive contributor with 21 home runs, 74 RBIs, and a .765 OPS, but 2026 has been plagued by injuries to both ankles and now his elbow.
Strengths
- Exceptional throwing arm (101.2 mph outfield assist, hardest by Blue Jays position player since 2015)
- Proven power hitter from 2025 season (21 HRs, 74 RBIs)
