Scouting Report: Calvin Coker
Chicago Cubs | RP
Overall
Summary
Cal Raleigh, Seattle Mariners catcher and 2025 AL MVP runner-up, has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain. This is his first IL stint in his sixth MLB season. The injury was initially suffered in early May and reaggravated on May 13 against Houston. MRI scans show the injury is "similar or slightly improved" from previous scans. The team plans a one-week shutdown with PRP injection and rest at the Peoria, Arizona facility. GM Justin Hollander stated they do not anticipate a lengthy absence. However, Raleigh has also been struggling significantly at the plate this season, hitting just .161 with a 0-for-38 hitless streak (later broken with two singles) before the injury. His hard contact rate is down significantly from 2025 when he hit 60 home runs and led the AL in RBIs.
Strengths
- Not expecting lengthy absence per GM
- MRI shows injury similar or slightly improved
