Scouting Report: Cole Duensing
Chicago Cubs | RP
Overall
Summary
Cole Ragans, 28-year-old All-Star left-handed pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 7, 2026, with left elbow impingement (Valgus Extension Overload/VEO or "pitcher's elbow"). Ragans exited his start against Cleveland after 3 innings on May 8 with soreness and tightness in his triceps and back of elbow. He received a lubricant injection and will be shut down 3-4 days before resuming baseball activities. Manager Matt Quatraro expects a minimal IL stay. Ragans expressed optimism about recovery, noting this injury feels different from his two previous Tommy John surgeries (2018, 2019). No structural damage was found. Ragans has struggled with consistency in 2026 (4.84 ERA over 35.1 IP) and missed significant time in 2025 with rotator cuff and groin strains.
Strengths
- All-Star caliber pitcher with ace-type potential (3.14 ERA in 2024)
- No structural damage confirmed - injury is not Tommy John-level serious
