Scouting Report: Drew VerHagen
Chicago Cubs | RP
Overall
Summary
Justin Verlander, 43-year-old Detroit Tigers right-hander, has been transferred to the 60-day injured list due to left hip inflammation. He made only one start this season (March 30 vs Arizona, 3⅔ IP, 5 ER) before landing on the IL on April 1. Verlander completed a bullpen session on May 6 without setbacks and was progressing through rehab with plans to face hitters during the Kansas City/New York road trip. However, he was moved to the 60-day IL on May 10, establishing May 31 as the earliest possible return date. Manager A.J. Hinch indicated multiple rehab appearances would be needed before competitive return. The move also created roster flexibility for the injury-plagued Tigers organization.
