Scouting Report: Isiah Gilliam
Chicago Cubs | RF
Overall
Summary
Luis Gil, the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year, has been placed on the 60-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The 27-year-old right-handed pitcher will not throw for at least three weeks. This injury comes after a frustrating stretch where Gil missed the first four months of 2025 with a lat strain, returned in August with a 3.32 ERA but saw his strikeout rate drop 10 percentage points. In 2026, Gil struggled significantly in four MLB starts with a 6.05 ERA before being optioned to Triple-A on April 26. Manager Aaron Boone indicated this shoulder inflammation is a new injury unrelated to his poor performance. Gil has been plagued by injuries throughout the past year and a half, severely impacting his ability to contribute at the major league level.
Strengths
- 2024 AL Rookie of the Year award
- Showed 3.32 ERA in 57 innings after returning in August 2025
