Jason Heyward, 36-year-old retired 16-year MLB veteran and five-time Gold Glove outfielder, has joined the Los Angeles Dodgers as a special assistant in baseball operations less than two months after retiring on March 27, 2026. In this new role, Heyward will evaluate talent and organizational infrastructure at minor league affiliates while learning the front office side of baseball operations. He aspires to eventually become a General Manager or team president. Heyward also interviewed with the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox before accepting the Dodgers position. His career included stops with six teams and he finished with a .255/.336/.400 slash line, 186 home runs, 308 doubles, 126 stolen bases, and 730 RBIs across 1,824 games.
