Scouting Report: Jordan Jones
Chicago Cubs | RP
Overall
Summary
Jared Jones is a 24-year-old right-handed pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates who underwent UCL surgery in May 2025 and missed the entire 2025 season. He is currently progressing through a minor league rehab assignment after starting the 2026 season on the injured list. Jones has made three rehab starts: a perfect three innings with 5 K's for Single-A Bradenton (April 29), five hits and one earned run in three innings for Triple-A Indianapolis (May 6, 54 pitches, 100.1 mph top velocity), and four scoreless innings for Double-A Altoona (May 12). The Pirates' GM Ben Cherington expects Jones to make "several" minor league starts before returning. Jones has emphatically stated he wants to return as a starting pitcher, not in a relief role. Before his injury, Jones posted a 6-8 record with a 4.14 ERA in 2024.
Strengths
- Strong velocity recovery (100.1 mph top speed, 98.8 mph average on fastball)
