Luis Gil, the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year, has been placed on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation. The Yankees shut him down after he was diagnosed with the condition and won't throw for at least three weeks. Gil has had a frustrating 18-month stretch, missing the first four months of 2025 with a significant lat strain. Upon his August return, he posted a 3.32 ERA across 57 innings but saw his strikeout rate drop 10 percentage points. In 2026, Gil struggled in early season action with a 6.05 ERA across four MLB starts before being optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on April 27. The Yankees believe this shoulder inflammation is a new injury unrelated to his poor April performance.
