Summary

Steven Matz, 34-year-old left-handed pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, was placed on the 15-day injured list on May 5, 2026 (retroactive to May 4) with left elbow inflammation. The injury came unexpectedly after Matz had delivered two consecutive quality starts, including a strong performance against the Giants on Sunday where he pitched six innings of one-run ball. Matz is 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA through seven starts in his first season with Tampa Bay. The severity of the elbow inflammation is unclear, but the Rays anticipate he will require more than the minimum 15-day absence. Chase Solesky was selected from Triple-A Durham to take his roster spot.
