Summary
Josh Smith, Texas Rangers second baseman, has been sidelined since May 4 with multiple injuries. Initially placed on the 10-day IL with a right glute strain, he subsequently developed wrist inflammation during his rehab process. Most critically, Smith was hospitalized for viral meningitis, requiring at least 7-10 days of hospitalization. Prior to injuries, Smith was struggling offensively with a .217/.324/.239 slash line in 31 games with no home runs and 6 RBIs. Backup infielders Ezequiel Duran and Justin Foscue have performed well in his absence.
