Summary
Francisco Alvarez, 24-year-old Mets catcher, was placed on the injured list with a torn meniscus in his right knee. He sustained the injury when his leg twisted while fouling off a pitch in the sixth inning of Tuesday's game against the Tigers. Expected to miss 6-8 weeks (up to two months) recovering from the injury. Alvarez was batting .241 this season as the everyday catcher for New York. Best projected return is late June or early July.
