Summary
Cole Ragans, a 28-year-old All-Star left-handed pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, has been placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 7) due to left elbow impingement, also known as Valgus Extension Overload (VEO) or "pitcher's elbow." Ragans sustained the injury during a Wednesday start against the Cleveland Guardians, departing after three innings. He underwent a lubricant injection to address the impacted area on the back of his elbow. Manager Matt Quatraro indicated a minimal IL stay with a 3-4 day shutdown period before resuming baseball activities. Medical evaluation confirmed no structural damage. Ragans has a history of two Tommy John surgeries but stated this injury feels different. Currently posting a 4.84 ERA over eight starts this season with 10 home runs allowed in 35.1 innings and an opponent OPS of .819. The Royals also have closer Carlos Estévez dealing with a right rotator cuff strain.
