Scouting Report: Evan Skoug
Overall
Summary
Tarik Skubal underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery on May 6, 2026 to remove a loose body (bone chip) from his left elbow. The procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache using a minimally invasive nanoscope technique. Early reports are very positive - Skubal has already begun throwing catch and reports feeling excellent with no awkwardness or guarding. Agent Scott Boras indicated the new procedure could cut recovery time in half compared to standard arthroscopic surgery. While no official timeline has been set, a mid-summer return is considered feasible. The Tigers are taking a cautious approach and will reassess once Skubal progresses to bullpen sessions and mound work.
Strengths
- Early throwing progression showing no pain or awkwardness
- Minimally invasive nanoscope procedure reduces recovery time vs standard arthroscopy
