Scouting Report: Jerffson Pena

Summary

Jeremy Peña, 28-year-old Houston Astros shortstop, is recovering from a Grade 1 right hamstring strain sustained in early April that sidelined him for over five weeks. He began a minor-league rehab assignment at Double-A Corpus Christi in mid-May and experienced minor neck soreness following a collision with a baserunner during a rehab game on Tuesday. Despite the neck issue, manager Joe Espada indicated it was not a long-term concern. Peña was reinstated from the 10-day IL on May 18, 2026, and returned to action batting leadoff and playing shortstop for the Astros in Minnesota. Prior to his injury, Peña was a first-time All-Star in 2025, posting a .304/.363/.477 slash line with 17 homers, 62 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases in 125 games. In 2026 before the injury, he went 11-for-43 (.256) with five runs and one stolen base in 10 games.
