Summary

Justin Martinez, 24-year-old Arizona Diamondbacks closer, underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in June 2025 after suffering an injury on June 9. As of May 2026, he has begun his recovery process and completed his first bullpen session, throwing 96-99 mph with his fastball. Manager Torey Lovullo described the session as "electric." Martinez is progressing well but still requires approximately 15 bullpen sessions before advancing further. He is not expected to return to action until late August 2026. Prior to injury, Martinez had saved 13 games in 2024-25 with a 2.76 ERA and triple-digit fastball velocity, along with a nasty secondary arsenal featuring a splitter and slider. The Diamondbacks signed him to a contract extension in spring training 2025.
