Milwaukee Brewers | SP

Overall

IL-10

Summary

Sean Murphy, 31-year-old Braves catcher, sustained a fractured left middle finger on May 11, 2026 during a catcher's interference play against the Dodgers. The injury occurred in just his fourth game back after rehabbing from hip surgery that caused him to miss the first month-and-a-half of the 2026 season. Manager Walt Weiss indicated Murphy will miss at least eight weeks, with additional time needed to return to full catching readiness. This is the latest in a series of injuries that have plagued Murphy since 2024, limiting him to fewer than 95 games in both 2024 and 2025. The Braves signed Sandy León and selected José Azócar to fill roster gaps created by Murphy's IL placement.

Strengths

  • Veteran catcher with 8 professional seasons
  • Previously signed to 6-year, $73 million extension by Braves
