Scouting Report: Carson Benge
New York Mets | CF
Overall
Summary
Carson Benge, the Mets' top prospect (Just Baseball No. 11), made his MLB debut on Opening Day 2026 with a home run but struggled significantly through April 22 (.127 BA, 16 K's). Since late April, he has shown dramatic improvement, posting a .303/.361/.545 line over 36 PA with a 156 wRC+ and reduced strikeout rate (16.7%). The turnaround came after adjusting his batting stance with coaching staff guidance, narrowing his stance openness from 20+ degrees to under 10 degrees. Over his last 16 games (as of May 12), Benge is slashing .300/.352/.500 with 2 HR, 4 doubles, and 8 RBI. He has also contributed defensively across all three outfield positions. Recently moved up in the batting order (leadoff and No. 5 hole), Benge is showing signs of successful adjustment to MLB pitching and has become one of the few bright spots in the Mets' offense.
Strengths
- Strong recent offensive surge (.303/.361/.545 since April 23)
- Reduced strikeout rate (16.7% vs 24.7% early season)
