Summary

Ethan Roberts, a right-handed pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, suffered a freak injury on April 14 when a medicine ball rebounded during a workout and caused a laceration to his right middle finger. He was placed on the 15-day injured list but was cleared for a rehab assignment approximately one week later. Through five rehab appearances with Triple-A Iowa, Roberts posted a 5:4 K:BB ratio over 5 innings while allowing just one run. He was activated from the IL on May 17 and is expected to contribute to the Cubs' bullpen. Prior to the injury, Roberts had pitched well in the majors, allowing zero runs over 2.2 innings across three appearances with only one batter reaching base out of 10 faced.
