Scouting Report: Ryan Walker
San Francisco Giants | RP
Overall
Summary
San Francisco Giants optioned veteran reliever Ryan Walker to Triple-A Sacramento on May 10, 2026, following a significant decline in performance. Walker began the 2026 season as the Giants' primary closer after recording 17 saves in 2025, but has struggled considerably. Over his last four appearances, he allowed 7 earned runs on 9 hits with 4 walks in 3.1 innings, including 2 blown saves. His season ERA stands at 6.46 with a 1.89 WHIP and 4.96 FIP across 16 games (15.1 innings). Manager Tony Vitello indicated that Walker has strayed from his mechanics and needs to regain confidence in a lower-pressure environment. The demotion came after Walker's best stretch in late April when he saved back-to-back games against the Dodgers, but he has been ineffective since, losing the closer role to Caleb Kilian.
