Scouting Report: Tristen Lutz

St Louis Cardinals | CF

C

Overall

IL-60

Summary

Tristen Lutz has been pulled off his rehab assignment by the Rays due to a left shoulder injury, marking another setback in a season plagued by multiple injuries. The player has yet to make his MLB debut after being acquired from the Reds in the offseason as the intended primary second baseman. Lutz has battled oblique discomfort in Spring Training, right shoulder impingement in mid-March, and a left ankle injury in April. He will undergo imaging for the new shoulder injury and is expected to be moved to the 60-day IL. In 21 Triple-A games, he has hit .200 with 1 HR across 90 plate appearances with 20 walks and 23 strikeouts. The timing is particularly unfortunate as he enters free agency next winter as a reclamation project after being league average the past two seasons.

Strengths

  • High walk rate (20 walks in 90 PA)
  • Acquired as reclamation project with opportunity to play primary position
