Summary

Josh Sborz, the Rangers' World Series hero, continues his lengthy recovery from shoulder surgery performed after the 2024 season. As of May 2026, he has made only one major league appearance since early August 2024. Recently, Sborz was deactivated from his Triple-A assignment to enter a mechanical maintenance program after struggling with velocity sustainability and performance issues. After pushing his velocity back to 94-95 mph (near pre-injury levels), he attempted to pitch on back-to-back days (April 14-15) but experienced significant setbacks. Following a strong outing on April 14 (1.23 ERA), he lasted only one out on April 15, allowing three runs. Over the next three outings, he allowed four home runs, four walks, and 10 runs in just four innings. The Rangers believe the effort required to maintain velocity is causing additional strain, and they are implementing a mechanical adjustment program to help him sustain velocity with less arm wear.

Strengths

  • Successfully pushed velocity back to 94-95 mph, near pre-injury levels
  • Had one strong outing on April 14 with a 1.23 ERA
