Scouting Report: Chad Smith
Chicago Cubs | RP
Overall
Summary
Josh Smith, Texas Rangers second baseman, is currently on the 10-day injured list with a right glute strain (since May 4) and has developed additional wrist inflammation that will delay his rehab program and likely extend his return date beyond May 15. Prior to his IL placement, Smith was struggling offensively, slashing .217/.324/.239 with 2 steals and 6 RBI across 108 plate appearances in 31 games. Backup infielders Ezequiel Duran and Justin Foscue have been performing well in his absence.
Strengths
- Eligible to return Thursday (May 15) pending recovery
- Manager Skip Schumaker indicated wrist inflammation should be resolved in hopefully just a couple of days
