Performance performance home-run multi-hit

Justin Foscue homered and doubled twice, but the Rangers fell to the Rockies on Monday.

Justin Foscue had an outstanding individual performance with a home run and two doubles, driving in three runs, though the Rangers lost to the Rockies. Foscue is showing strong early season numbers with a .280/.308/.600 slash line.

Foscue drove in three runs in the contest, and he also drew a walk. The former first-round selection hit his second homer of the campaign off Jose Quintana, and both doubles scored runs -- and both came off Quintana. He's been excellent in his limited sample with a slash of .280/.308/.600, and while it's understandable -- and probably wise -- to be skeptical, it's obviously feasible that Foscue is a late bloomer.

Performance performance double game-recap trade-candidate

Willi Castro doubled twice to help the Rockies to a 7-6 win over the Rangers on Sunday.

Willi Castro went 2-for-4 with two doubles, including a sixth-inning double that scored Braxton Fulford and extended the Rockies' lead to 7-3 in their 7-6 victory over the Rangers. Castro is batting .351 with eight doubles on the season and is expected to be a trade candidate.

Castro's sixth-inning double scored Braxton Fulford and gave the Rockies a 7-3 cushion. The 29-year-old veteran has eight doubles on the season, and he's now slugging a less-than-spectacular .351 on the season; even more unspectacular when you consider his home park. Castro likely will be a trade candidate this summer, and his utility abilities help clubs a lot more than fantasy players.

Jake Bauers went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI against the Cubs on Monday.

Jake Bauers went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI against the Cubs on Monday. His home run was his seventh of the season, a three-run shot off Shota Imanaga in the fifth inning. Despite strong performance, he may face reduced playing time with Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich returning from injury.

Bauers' home run was his seventh of the season. He hit a three-run shot off Shota Imanaga in the fifth inning. While Bauers has hit well to this point in the season, with Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich back from injury, he could be squeezed for playing time.

Dansby Swanson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Brewers on Monday.

Dansby Swanson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Brewers on Monday, his seventh home run of the season. Despite the power display, Swanson is hitting .194 on the season.

Swanson's home run was his seventh of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Brandon Sproat in the fifth inning. After allowing another run, Sproat was chased from the ballgame before completing five innings. Swanson is still hitting .194 on the season despite his power.

Performance poor-performance pitching loss brewers

Shota Imanaga allowed eight runs in 4 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Brewers on Monday.

Shota Imanaga had a poor outing against the Brewers, allowing 8 runs in 4 1/3 innings while taking the loss. The 32-year-old left-hander gave up 9 hits and 3 walks with 2 strikeouts, with the Brewers scoring 7 combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Despite the rough performance, his season ERA remains at 3.38.

Imanaga gave up nine hits, walked three and struck out two. The 32-year-old left-hander allowed only one run in the first three innings before the Brewers scored a combined seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings. It was undoubtedly Imanaga's worst outing of the year. He was having such a good season that his ERA is merely 3.38 now. He'll face the Astros at home this weekend in a bounce-back spot.

Performance performance home-run back-injury return-from-il

Christian Yelich went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI against the Cubs on Monday.

Christian Yelich went 2-for-4 with a walk, double, home run, two runs scored and two RBI against the Cubs. His home run was his third of the season and second in consecutive days. Despite back issues that have cost him four games since returning from the injured list, Yelich's offensive production remains strong.

Yelich's home run was his third of the season and second in as many days. The 34-year-old hit a solo shot off Shota Imanaga in the second inning. Yelich's back has already cost him four games since returning from the injured list. While his health remains somewhat of an obstacle, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with his bat.

Performance performance pitching strikeouts era

Jose Quintana coughed up three runs over 5 2/3 innings against the Rangers on Monday with four strikeouts.

Jose Quintana pitched 5 2/3 innings against the Rangers, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. He struggled with command and effectiveness, generating only 7 swings and misses on 94 pitches. Justin Foscue hit a home run and two RBI doubles off Quintana. Quintana carries a 4.04 ERA heading into his next start against the Diamondbacks.

Quintana allowed seven hits and also issued a walk. The southpaw had issues with Justin Foscue, as Foscue was hit a homer and two RBI doubles off Quintana before exiting. He generating just seven swings and misses on 94 pitches, and that's not a surprise; Quintana hasn't been a bat-misser for some time now. He'll take a 4.04 ERA and likely have a similar underwhelming outing against the Diamondbacks come Saturday.

Jung Hoo Lee was removed from Monday's game against the Diamondbacks in the fourth inning due to back spasms. The 27-year-old outfielder is expected to be day-to-day for the remainder of the series.

Lee was replaced by Will Brennan in right field during the fourth inning of Monday's series opener after going 1-for-2 at the plate. The 27-year-old outfielder is presumably day-to-day for the final two games of the series.

Performance performance pitcher no-decision game-recap

Brandon Sproat allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Brewers' 9-3 victory over the Cubs on Monday.

Brandon Sproat pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing three runs on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in the Brewers' 9-3 win over the Cubs, earning a no-decision despite being staked to an 8-0 lead.

Sproat gave up three hits, walked three and struck out five. He was staked to an 8-0 lead, but couldn't complete the fifth inning and thus failed to record the win despite the lopsided score. All three runs Sproat allowed came in the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Carson Kelly and an RBI double by Michael Busch. It was an unfortunate ending to a promising start. Sproat will take a 5.75 ERA into his next start against the Dodgers at home this weekend.

George Springer went 2-for-5 with a solo home run against the Yankees on Monday, bringing his home run total to three on the year. Despite the hit, Springer struck out twice and grounded into a double play, maintaining a low .196 batting average and .604 OPS.

Springer's day was a bit of a mixed bag. While he had two hits including a solo shot off Ryan Weathers in the fifth inning for his third home run of the year, the 36-year-old outfielder also struck out twice and grounded into a double play. Springer is still hitting .196 on the year and the home run brought his OPS up to .604. He's been one of the bigger fantasy busts of the year so far after a rebound season in 2025.

Performance performance pitcher era no-decision struggle

Patrick Corbin allowed three runs in four innings and got a no-decision against the Yankees on Monday.

Patrick Corbin allowed three runs in four innings with six hits, three walks, and three strikeouts in a no-decision against the Yankees. The 36-year-old left-hander struggled against Paul Goldschmidt, who hit a leadoff home run and a game-tying double. Corbin continues to struggle with pitch count management and has a 4.23 ERA.

Corbin gave up six hits, walked three and struck out three. The 36-year-old left-hander lost two battles to Paul Goldschmidt that decided his outing. Goldschmidt hit a leadoff home run to start the scoring for the Yankees, then capped a rally in the fourth inning with a game-tying double. Corbin is regularly failing to complete five innings and has a 4.23 ERA, which makes him unusable outside of AL-only leagues. He'll face the Pirates at home this weekend.

Performance save closer performance redemption

David Bednar allowed one run and got the save against the Blue Jays on Monday.

David Bednar earned his 11th save against the Blue Jays on Monday, allowing one run in a tense ninth inning. The Pirates closer struck out two batters and got Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to ground out to secure the win, bouncing back after blowing a save against the Mets the previous day.

Bednar picked up his 11th save against the Blue Jays on Monday, but it wasn't without suspense. With a two-run lead, the 31-year-old right-hander walked Ernie Clement to start the ninth inning. Jesus Sanchez promptly entered the game and hit an RBI double. Bednar then struck out two of the next three hitters before getting Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to ground out to end the game. While it was a tightrope walk, Bednar bounced back after blowing his second save against the Mets on Sunday.

Performance performance pitching era slump loss

Framber Valdez allowed four runs in five innings and took the loss against the Guardians on Monday.

Framber Valdez took a loss against the Guardians, allowing four runs in five innings with five hits, four walks, and three strikeouts. His ERA has risen to 4.58 this season, significantly above his career average, and he's struggled over his last three starts with 13 earned runs in 14 2/3 innings.

Valdez gave up five hits, walked four and struck out three. He fell to 2-3 with the loss. Valdez has allowed 13 earned runs in 14 2/3 innings over his last three starts now. The 32-year-old left-hander has a career 3.41 ERA and 3.37 xFIP so fantasy managers have to be frustrated that he has a 4.58 ERA and 4.21 xFIP after 10 starts this year. Vinnie Pasquantino went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Monday's loss to the Red Sox. He is struggling with a .198 batting average and is 2-for-19 over his last five games, with declining bat speed metrics compared to last season.

Pasquantino seemed to be bouncing back earlier this month, but he is 2-for-19 in his last five games, dropping his average back down to .198, and his xwOBA was already trending down again before that. That's still no good explanation from him going from 58th percentile bat speed last year to 14th percentile this season. There's still hope things will get better, but the Royals probably need to try someone else in the third spot in their lineup.

Performance pitching performance loss run-support

Seth Lugo pitched six innings allowing two runs in a loss to the Red Sox. Despite strong pitching performances, Lugo has struggled with run support and sits at 1-4 in his last 10 starts. He has another home start scheduled against the Mariners.

Lugo has had some rough outings of late, but he's also suffered from quite the lack of support in his strong outings, which is why he's 1-4 through 10 turns. This is the seventh time he's allowed two runs or fewer. He has another home start coming up this weekend against the Mariners.

Aroldis Chapman worked a perfect ninth with a two-run lead for his 11th save Monday versus the Royals.

It's Chapman's 13th straight scoreless appearances and sixth in a row in which he hasn't allowed a hit. The save was his 378th of his career, so he's passed Joe Nathan to stand alone in 10th place on the all-time list. Riley Greene went 2-for-2 with a walk, double, RBI and hit by pitch against the Guardians. The 25-year-old outfielder has made offseason adjustments, improving his batting average to .320 and nearly doubling his walk percentage to 13.6% while reducing strikeouts from 30% to 27%.

Greene started the scoring in the first inning as he blasted an RBI double that was a foot away from being a home run. The 25-year-old outfielder made adjustments to his approach this offseason and his average and walk percentage have increased while his power has decreased. Greene's strikeout percentage of 30 percent last year is only slightly down at 27 percent this year, but his walk percentage has nearly doubled from seven percent last year to 13.6 percent this year. His average is up to .327 after hitting .258 last year, though his ISO has slipped from .235 to .158. Greene's .450 BABIP this year is the highest among qualified batters and over 100 points higher than his career .353 BABIP. His average is unsustainable unless he significantly cuts into his strikeout rate, but Greene has patience and power in his profile to fall back on.

The 29-year-old southpaw got plenty of run support from Tampa Bay's offense in this one and was able to cruise to a relatively stress-free win. He'll carry a sparkling 2.82 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 47/17 K/BB ratio across 44 2/3 innings into a road tilt against the Yankees to close out a two-start week on Sunday.

Performance performance hitting multi-hit-game rbi hot-streak

Yandy Diaz went 4-for-5 with four RBI during Wednesday's lopsided win over the Orioles.

Yandy Diaz went 4-for-5 with four RBI in the Royals' win over the Orioles, including a 400-foot two-run double. The 34-year-old is hitting .310/.387/.480 with 7 homers and 31 RBI through 44 games.

Diaz capped off an impressive four-hit masterpiece with a two-run double against Orioles reliever Dietrich Enns that traveled 400 feet and one-hopped off the left-center field wall. It was his first four-hit effort since March 29 when he racked up five hits. The 34-year-old on-base machine is hitting .310/.387/.480 with seven homers, 31 RBI and one steal through 44 games.

Performance performance home-run catcher hot-streak

Adley Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI in Monday's blowout loss to the Rays.

Adley Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI in Monday's loss to the Rays. He has homered twice in his last four games and is having an outstanding season with a .276/.325/.534 slash line, 7 home runs, and 26 RBI across 31 games.

Rutschman's round-tripper came in garbage time with Baltimore trailing by double-digit runs, but it counts all the same for fantasy purposes. He's homered twice in his last four contests. The 28-year-old backstop has looked outstanding this season, hitting .276/.325/.534 with seven homers and 26 RBI across 31 games, on the heels of last year's injury-marred campaign.

Performance home-run performance rbi streak blowout

Junior Caminero went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBI on Monday, powering the Rays to a 16-6 blowout win over the Orioles.

Junior Caminero went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBI, leading the Rays to a 16-6 victory over the Orioles. He hit a 116.8-mph single in the second inning and a three-run blast in the fifth, extending his hot streak with his second consecutive game with a home run and 13th of the season.

Caminero extended Tampa Bay's early lead with 116.8-mph single to left field in the second inning before taking Orioles reliever Cameron Foster deep for a three-run blast in the fifth inning. It was his second consecutive contest with a big fly and his 13th round-tripper of the season. He's gone deep five times since May 1.

Performance performance home-run batting-average rbi

Sal Stewart went 2-for-4 with a homer from the fifth spot in the Reds lineup Monday against the Phillies.

Sal Stewart went 2-for-4 with a home run batting fifth for the Reds against the Phillies. Despite recent struggles that led to a temporary lineup drop, his advanced metrics (xwOBA, barrels) are trending positively, and he remains tied for 10th in RBIs (32) and 8th in barrels (24) in MLB.

As a result of his recent struggles, Stewart was dropped from third to fifth in the Reds lineup on Sunday, but it figures to be a temporary measure. His xwOBA was already trending back up some coming into tonight, and he's back up to tied for 10th in the majors with 32 RBI. He's eighth with his 24 barrels, which have led to 11 homers. He remains a strong bet going forward.

Performance relief-pitcher loss poor-performance bullpen

Graham Ashcraft took a loss to the Phillies on Monday after allowing two runs in 1 2/3 innings out of the pen.

Graham Ashcraft took a loss against the Phillies, allowing two runs in 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. He gave up a single and a home run in the eighth inning after a scoreless seventh, and is struggling to make a case for save opportunities in the Reds' bullpen.

Ashcraft came into a 3-3 game in the bottom of the seventh. He pitched a scoreless frame then, after which the Reds took a 4-3 lead. However, he gave up a single to Alec Bohm and a homer to Bryson Stott in the bottom of the eighth. Ashcraft was pitching for the first time since giving up four runs on Friday. He's definitely not adding to his case for save chances in a wide-open Reds bullpen.

Performance performance control-issues injury-recovery pitcher blister

Nick Lodolo yielded three runs and walked five in 5 2/3 innings Monday in a no-decision against the Phillies.

Nick Lodolo pitched 5 2/3 innings against the Phillies with 3 runs allowed and 5 walks in a no-decision. Since returning from a blister, he's struggled with control (11/9 K/BB, 3 hit batters in 15 innings), though velocity remains fine. He may get extra rest before facing the Cardinals.

Only 53 of Lodolo's 97 pitches were strikes tonight. In three starts since returning from a blister, Lodolo has an 11/9 K/BB with three hit batters in 15 innings. His velocity is fine, and he's throwing all of his pitches. Maybe the finger is still affecting his control, though. He'll likely get an extra day off before facing the Cardinals on Sunday.

Performance save strikeout closer return-from-il performance

Jhoan Duran fanned two in a perfect ninth for his eighth save Monday against the Phillies.

Jhoan Duran pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to earn his eighth save against the Phillies. He struck out multiple batters in all six appearances since returning from the IL and should be available for Tuesday's game.

The first K tonight, against Nathaniel Lowe, was the product of a 10-pitch at-bat. Fortunately, he needed just eight more to get the remaining two outs, so he should be available again Tuesday. Duran has struck out multiple batters in all six of his appearances since coming off the IL.

Performance pitcher-performance quality-start efficiency no-decision

Andrew Painter pitched two-run ball for six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Reds.

Andrew Painter delivered a strong pitching performance against the Reds, allowing two runs over six innings in a no-decision. He recorded his first quality start in just 69 pitches, continuing an impressive stretch with 131 pitches and three runs allowed over his last two starts combined.

A second straight very tidy outing from Painter saw him record his first quality start in only 69 pitches. Including last week's start in Boston, he's totaled 131 pitches while allowing three runs over 11 innings in his last two turns. In the two starts prior to that, he threw 187 pitches over 8 2/3 innings, giving up 11 runs in the process. Painter allowed three hits and five hard-hit balls tonight. He struck out three, settling for just three whiffs on 33 swings. But while strikeouts are nice, the Phillies surely prefer efficient six-inning outings for the moment. Painter will face the Guardians this weekend.

News

Alec Bohm went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk Monday in the Phillies' 5-4 win over the Reds on Monday.

It was Bohm and Bryson stepping up for the Phillies tonight, as Stott hit a go-ahead homer after Bohm singled with the club down 4-3 in the eighth. Bohm's homer off Nick Lodolo came two innings earlier. He's 15-for-35 with three homers and three doubles during a nine-game hitting streak that has raised his OPS from .433 to .604.

MacKenzie Gore made an early exit from Monday's start against the Rockies with lat tightness.

MacKenzie Gore exited Monday's start against the Rockies early due to lat tightness. He pitched only one inning, requiring 28 pitches with notably reduced fastball velocity before being replaced. He allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks. An injured list placement appears likely pending further evaluation.

Gore needed 28 pitches to get through his lone inning of work, with his fastball velocity down considerably before he was replaced by reliever Peyton Gray. He was charged with two runs on three hits. He struck out two and also issued a pair of walks. It certainly sounds like a potential injured list situation. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

Snell will have the same innovative procedure, which is less invasive and uses a smaller incision than a typical arthroscopic surgery, that Tigers ace Tarik Skubal underwent earlier this month. Lauer will slot into the Dodgers' six-man rotation after being acquired from the Blue Jays in a trade over the weekend. The 30-year-old lefty struggled to a bloated 6.69 ERA across 36 1/3 innings for Toronto earlier this season. He's unlikely to carry any semblance of fantasy value unless Los Angeles' pitching apparatus is able to unlock something to get him back on track. It's a noteworthy development since he'll take over Blake Snell's rotation spot with prospect River Ryan likely staying in the minors.

He has not yet progressed to throwing off a bullpen mound, and the unpredictable nature of back issues makes his return timeline uncertain.

Roberts didn't specify how long Glasnow will be shut down, but it sounds like he'll get a couple days off to let the issue subside. The 32-year-old hit the shelf with back spasms last week and has yet to progress to throwing off a bullpen mound. Webb is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday before heading out for a brief rehab stint. It's hard to imagine it'll be more than one tune-up before Webb returns to San Francisco's rotation. Tarik Skubal threw a bullpen session less than two weeks after undergoing a Nanoscope procedure to remove loose bodies from his pitching elbow. The pitcher is progressing through his throwing program and could potentially return to Detroit's rotation in June.

It almost defies logic that Skubal is back throwing again less than two weeks after undergoing an innovative Nanoscope procedure to remove loose bodies from his pitching elbow. The 29-year-old southpaw will need a couple weeks to ramp up his throwing program again, but it doesn't seem unrealistic that he could make it back to Detroit's rotation at some point in June. Unreal.

Roman Anthony (Red Sox) experienced wrist soreness while attempting to swing a bat during his recovery from a right wrist sprain sustained in early May. The team is shutting him down for a couple days before resuming bat work, with no immediate cause for concern as soreness is common during the rehabilitation process.

The Red Sox aren't going to take any chances with the long-term health of their potential franchise cornerstone, which is why Anthony will be shut down for a couple days before he picks up a bat again. The 22-year-old prodigy has been on the shelf recovering from a right wrist sprain since early May. It's not uncommon for a hitter to experience soreness and discomfort when they resume swinging a bat, so there's no reason to panic just yet. However, it's a situation fantasy managers should closely monitor.

The 24-year-old former top prospect is hitting .291/.333/.527 with seven doubles, two homers and just 13 strikeouts in 14 games since May 1. Kyle Teel has been diagnosed with a sprained LCL in addition to his hamstring injury and will miss 3-6 weeks. The injury occurred during a rehab contest for Triple-A Charlotte, delaying his season debut with the Chicago White Sox and significantly impacting his season.

It's an unfortunate setback for Teel as he appeared to be close to making it back to Chicago for his season debut before suffering the injury during a rehab contest for Triple-A Charlotte over the weekend. The 24-year-old backstop will be on the shelf until at least early June before he's potentially an option for the White Sox. Emerson went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in his major-league debut against the Padres on Sunday night. He'll get a chance to face White Sox rookie lefty Noah Schultz in his second big-league contest. The 20-year-old prodigy remains a work in progress at the plate, like most top prospects at his age, but he's displayed one of the strongest hit tools in the minors over the past few years, while adding some additional over-the-fence power within the last year. He's worthy of a speculative roster spot in all leagues based solely on his immense talent, but fantasy managers should keep expectations in check while he acclimates to everyday life in the majors.

Orioles activated 2B Jackson Holliday from the 10-day injured list.

Orioles activated 2B Jackson Holliday from the 10-day injured list after recovering from hamate fracture surgery sustained in spring training. The 22-year-old prospect experienced multiple setbacks during rehabilitation but is now cleared to return to action, though his immediate fantasy impact may be limited as he works to regain form.

It's challenging to forecast Holliday making a significant fantasy impact right away since he didn't exactly tear the cover off the ball during his latest rehab stint in the upper minors. The 22-year-old former top prospect experienced several setbacks during his rehabilitation process and has been on the shelf since undergoing surgery to repair a hamate fracture back in spring training. It may take time to shake off the metaphorical cobwebs, but Holliday should be an impactful fantasy contributor at second base this season, but only if he's finally put the hand issue to bed. He figures to spend some time at both second and third base with the Orioles over the remainder of the year.

The Seattle Mariners selected the contract of outfielder Brennen Davis from Triple-A Tacoma and added him to the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old former prospect has been performing well at Triple-A with a .281/.394/.548 slash line and 8 home runs in 38 games, positioning him for a potential call to the majors later this season.

Davis had an upward mobility clause in his minor league contract with the Mariners, which is why he's been added to the club's 40-man roster. He'll remain stationed at Triple-A Tacoma for now, but figures to receive the call to the majors at some point later this season. The 26-year-old former top prospect has been outstanding this season, slashing .281/.394/.548 with eight homers in 165 plate appearances over 38 games on the doorstep of the big leagues.

The Seattle Mariners optioned infielder Leo Rivas to Triple-A Tacoma to make room on the roster as they push for a playoff run, with top prospect Colt Emerson staying with the team and Brendan Donovan expected to return from the injured list.

Top prospect Colt Emerson isn't going anywhere, even when Brendan Donovan is back from the injured list. Rivas offers some appeal in a bench role, but the Mariners are trying to make a real playoff push this summer and there simply isn't a spot for him anymore. There's always a chance injuries bring him back to the big leagues in a bench role later this summer.

New York has an opening in their rotation for Friday's series opener against the division-rival Rays in Yankee Stadium after shipping rookie starter Elmer Rodriguez back to the minors. It's hardly official yet, but Cole would be making his first start in the big leagues since Game 5 of the World Series back in 2024 after missing all of last year recovering from Tommy John surgery. He threw 86 pitches, while averaging 97 mph on his four-seam fastball, over 5 1/3 innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in his latest rehab outing last weekend. Colt Keith is leading off and starting at designated hitter against the Guardians on Monday. Despite a .295 batting average, his performance metrics show decline with lower barrel rate, hard-hit rate, and no home runs with just six RBIs on the season.

Keith is hitting .295/.336/.357 on the season, but that's about all we can say. His bat speed is up one mph, but it's not where he showcased it in the first month of the season. He has a lower barrel rate and hard-hit rate than last season, and has hit no home runs with just six RBI despite hitting mostly third this season. He doesn't need to be on many fantasy rosters.

Caleb Durbin is not in the starting lineup for the Red Sox on Monday against the Royals, with Nick Sogard playing third base instead. Despite Durbin's offensive struggles this season, his strong defensive play suggests this is a temporary rest rather than a permanent change at the position.

Nick Sogard is playing third base and batting ninth on Monday. Despite Durbin's struggles at the plate this season, he has been tremendous defensively for a Red Sox team that spent the off season adding ground ball pitchers to its rotation. As a result, we imagine this will be more of a mini reset for Durbin, rather than the Red Sox making a change at third base.

The bad news is that he has a 34.5 percent strikeout rate on the season and has a 21/2 K/BB ratio in May. The power is tantalizing, and the speed is a nice boost, but will he make enough contact? Shortstop might also be a possibility if they decide to trade CJ Abrams before the deadline, though such a move seems less likely than it did a few months ago.

An approach change has really turned things around for Crews lately, and he's slashing .291/.333/.527 in May with two home runs, nine RBI, two steals, and a 13/4 K/BB ratio. Since the end of April, his hard-hit rate is over 50 percent, he's chasing fewer pitches outside of the zone, and making much more contact in the zone. He's still swinging and missing a decent amount, but he's pulling the ball in the air often, so his whiff rate can be sustainable if he continues to hit the ball and look to get it into the air on the pull side. Pirates prospect Jhostynxon Garcia is being called up to the major leagues after being acquired from the Red Sox in an offseason trade. Garcia has struggled at Triple-A with a .205 average and three home runs in 19 games, and has dealt with a lower back injury on the minor league injured list.

Garcia, better known as "The Password," came to the Pirates in a trade this offseason from the Red Sox. He's hitting .205/.256/.356 with three home runs and seven RBI in 19 games at Triple-A. He's also spent time on the minor league injured list with a lower back injury. While "The Password" is a well-known prospect, he has been far better against left-handed pitching in the minor leagues, and there are some contact concerns. We'd prefer to leave him on the waiver wire while we see what role the Pirates have planned for him.

News

The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey reports that Roman Anthony (wrist) will swing a bat on Monday.

Anthony has been sidelined since May 4th, and the Red Sox have focused on building strength in his hand before allowing him to grip a bat. Now, he will start with hitting flips before hitting off a machine. If that goes well, he could face live pitching sometime later this week and perhaps only need a short rehab stint before he's back in Boston before the end of May. The Red Sox offense could really use him.

Giants' 'untradeable' $313.5 million contract is crushing postseason hopes - Yahoo Sports

The San Francisco Giants are struggling with a large $313.5 million contract that is considered untradeable and is negatively impacting their postseason hopes and competitive prospects.

Paying any player $27 million a year comes with major risk. Advertisement Advertisement The San Francisco Giants decided to take that risk last season, but it hasn't worked out in their favor. "This contract has already been traded once, so maybe I'm underestimating the odds of it happening again, but I just can't see it," FanSided's Zachary Rotman wrote Tuesday. "Yes, the Giants are eager to offload the [Rafael] Devers deal, and who knows, maybe if they're willing to attach a ton of prospects, they can find a taker, but barring that, Devers might have the worst and most untradeable contract in the sport right now." Devers is hitting .275 in his last 20 games, with 19 hits and 10 RBIs. He's finding his power stroke again, hitting a home run in three of his last five games. But the Giants likely know that Devers won't be able to keep up that production throughout the season. His value on the trade market is lower than most due to his defensive limitations. Phillies $172 million pitcher has gone from ace to 'untradeable' in two years - Yahoo Sports

Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Philadelphia Phillies are having a bit of a rough season in 2026, though things have begun to go in the right direction since Rob Thomson was fired and Don Mattingly took over. Advertisement Advertisement While there might be some positives coming out this season, with the return to elite form of Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber proving the $150 million contract was the right move, and Brandon Marsh emerging as a star, there is one issue that's been confirmed. A few years ago, the Phillies re-signed Aaron Nola to a $172 million contract in free agency, in a move that was, at the time, the right one. But, just two years later, Nola is an "untradeable" contract according to Fansided.com's Zachary Rotman. "The fact that he's a starting pitcher helps boost his value a bit, as every team could use more starting pitching, but the length of this deal, paired with his declining ability and stuff, makes it very hard to move, and that's without mentioning his no-trade clause," Rotman writes. Nola was an elite pitcher from 2017 through 2024, but ever since signing his $172 million deal, he's become a total disaster for the Phillies, and that expensive deal has made Nola someone the Phillies couldn't trade even if they wanted. Why Marcus Semien is most to blame for Mets' disastrous start to 2026 season

Marcus Semien is blamed for the Mets' poor start to the 2026 season, with his low OPS, minimal home run production (one), and failures with runners in scoring position cited as key reasons for the team's 10-20 record through 30 games.

Why Marcus Semien is most to blame for Mets' disastrous start to 2026 season # Why Marcus Semien is most to blame for Mets’ disastrous start to 2026 season Marcus Semien's OPS, one home run, and brutal RISP failures make him the top reason for the Mets' dreadful 2026 collapse. By Garrett Kerman Apr 30, 2026 at 10:42 AM ET The New York Mets entered 2026 with playoff ambitions, a revamped lineup, and legitimate NL East aspirations. Instead, after 30 games, they have a terrible 10-20 record, are in last place in the NL East, and are a shocking 11.5 games behind the Braves, who are in first place in the division. Juan Soto's injury history to start the season hasn't help, and Bo Bichette hasn't been very good either. But when you look at the whole picture, the cost of the trade, the size of the contract, and the player's performance on the field, one player stands out as the biggest reason why this Mets team is sinking: Marcus Semien. Acquired this past offseason in a blockbuster trade that sent beloved outfielder Brandon Nimmo to Texas, Semien arrived in Queens as the centerpiece of New York's offensive rebuild. He has three years and $72 million still remaining on his seven-year, $175 million contract. That is an astronomical sum for a player who has been, by every measurable standard, one of the worst hitters in baseball so far in 2026. ## The Numbers Don't Lie — Marcus Semien is Historically Bad Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Semien has a terrible .566 OPS and is hitting .226/.284/.302 in 30 games. That OPS puts him outside the top 150 qualifying hitters in all of baseball. The Mets are already 29th in runs scored this season with only 102. Their No. 2 hole hitter is hitting less than .600 OPS is an anchor that pulls the whole lineup down. The .291 slugging percentage is especially bad; Semien has only hit one home run and driven in nine runs in 30 games. The Mets got him hoping to get at least a hint of the player who hit .276/.348/.478 with 29 home run

The Giants' Long-Term Contracts Are Becoming A Big Problem - MLB Trade Rumors

The San Francisco Giants are facing significant challenges with their long-term contracts becoming a major problem for the franchise's financial flexibility and future planning.

The Giants' Long-Term Contracts Are Becoming A Big Problem - MLB Trade Rumors ### Headlines - Bobby Cox Passes Away - Guardians Acquire Patrick Bailey - Diamondbacks Designate Alek Thomas For Assignment, Promote Ryan Waldschmidt - Marlins Promote Robby Snelling - Yankees Promote Spencer Jones, Place Jasson Dominguez On Injured List - Matthew Boyd To Miss About Six Weeks Following Meniscus Surgery - Hoops Rumors - Pro Football Rumors - Pro Hockey Rumors The Giants are in a real tough spot right now. They are 16-24 on the season, one of the worst records in baseball. An individual season being disappointing is something that happens to most teams but the current struggles are casting shadows over the long-term outlook since a lot of the disappointment is coming from the long-term core. Aside from a stunning 107-win season in 2021, the Giants have been a .500 club or worse for a decade now. They have tried to get more aggressive recently, adding a number of large contracts to their books. Their three longest remaining commitments are to Rafael Devers, Willy Adames and Matt Chapman. All three are performing poorly, which could limit the club’s flexibility going forward. One major underwater contract is usually bad news for a team but three is obviously a much greater concern. Devers is easily having the worst season of his career so far. He has a .232/.276/.364 batting line and 79 wRC+, indicating he’s been 21% worse than the league average hitter. That’s miles south of his career line, which is .274/.347/.502 and translates to a 125 wRC+. His 30.1% strikeout rate is more than three ticks worse than his previous career high. His 6.1% walk rate would be his lowest in a full season. The struggles can’t really be blamed on poor luck. Devers has a .310 batting average on balls in play. That’s a bit south of his .315 career rate but barely, and still above the .289 league average. The Giants probably have to be hoping Devers is hurt. If not, the trends are gloomy. Tho

"For a 31-year-old who already had injury concerns and wasn't performing at a $20 million level, that is brutal." The risk Correa's injury history brings to other teams makes the $200 million contract he signed with the Minnesota Twins one of the more untradeable in the Majors. Vargas has started each of Arizona's last 12 games, hitting five home runs during that time and earning starts out of the leadoff spot in three of them (Sunday included). With Perdomo injuring his ankle during Saturday's game, Vargas should see continued leadoff time, assuming Perdomo's ailment requires an IL stint. Vargas' ascent to starter status makes him worth a pickup. Unfortunately, the Perdomo comparisons end with Vargas' power ascent and his hot start to 2026, as the two are not otherwise equal. Perdomo broke through as a 25-year-old with a top-100 prospect pedigree (his 2021 debut year), while Vargas is a 34-year-old journeyman who, before this year, had never effectively hit right-handed pitching. He already has as many home runs against them this year (2) as he had in any of his nine prior MLB campaigns. Vargas is one of the game's most free-swinging hitters, with a 4.9% career walk rate and a sixth-percentile chase rate this season, so by all rights his hot spell is merely that: a hot spell.

4 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups: Hitters to Add | FantasyPros

Fantasy baseball article recommending four hitter waiver wire pickups for early season leagues, highlighting opportunities to find undervalued players as depth charts and roles continue to evolve.

4 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups: Hitters to Add | FantasyPros The early part of the MLB season is where fantasy baseball leagues are quietly won with key fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups. Depth charts are still fluid, roles are evolving, and waiver wires are full of players who haven’t quite caught up to their production. This week’s crop of hitters fits that mold perfectly. Whether you’re chasing short-term upside or looking for a longer hold, these four names stand out as actionable adds right now. - Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Advice - Fantasy Baseball Trade Advice - Fantasy Baseball Start/Sit Lineup Advice - MLB Prop Bet Cheat Sheet ## Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups: Hitters to Add Let’s break down what matters and how to approach each player in your league context. ### Xander Bogaerts (SS – SD) There’s a decent chance Bogaerts is still floating on your waiver wire, and that alone should grab your attention. The production has started to stabilize after a slow opening stretch, with multi-hit games stacking up and counting stats beginning to follow. But this is less about the player and more about the environment. San Diego’s upcoming schedule includes Coors Field and a high-altitude series in Mexico City. Those are two of the most offense-friendly contexts you’ll find anywhere in baseball. Bogaerts already offers a balanced stat line with moderate power, speed, and RBI potential. Add in elite hitting environments, and you’re looking at a short-term spike that can swing weekly matchups. Even if you view him as a streamer, this is the type of window you exploit. ### Oswald Peraza (1B, 2B, 3B, SS – LAA) Peraza is starting to look like more than just a deep-league dart throw. The playing time is stabilizing, the lineup spot is improving, and the skills are showing up across the board. He’s hitting for average, adding some pop, and contributing on the basepaths. More importantly, the underlying profile is encouraging. A low strikeout rate

Fantasy baseball waiver wire recommendations highlighting hitters to add based on elite production, changing roles, and increased MLB opportunities for fantasy relevance.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups: Hitters to Add Now | FantasyPros The fantasy baseball waiver wire isn’t overflowing with fresh names right now, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t meaningful upgrades to be made. In fact, this is the kind of week where identifying one or two impact bats can separate you from the pack. A few hitters are forcing their way into fantasy relevance, whether through elite production, changing roles, or opportunity knocking at the MLB level. Here are a few fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups and hitters to add now. - Fantasy Baseball Trade Analyzer - Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Assistant - Fantasy Baseball Lineup Assistant - MLB Prop Bet Cheat Sheet ## Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups | Hitters to Add Now Let’s break down four names worth your attention, starting with the hottest pickup in the game right now. ### Carlos Cortes (OF – ATH) It’s no longer a debate. Carlos Cortes has graduated from streamer to must-roster player. The surface numbers jump off the page. He’s slashing .387/.457/.694 with an OPS north of 1.100, and the underlying metrics back it up. We’re talking elite expected stats across the board, including near-perfect percentile rankings in key categories like xwOBA and xSLG. What makes Cortes especially intriguing is how sustainable parts of this breakout look. His contact rate has climbed, his hard-hit profile is legit, and he’s keeping strikeouts in check. Even as a strong-side platoon bat, he’s getting enough volume against right-handers to matter in weekly formats. Fantasy managers sometimes overthink platoons. If a player is crushing the majority of pitching he faces, that’s enough. Cortes fits that mold right now, and in a weak waiver environment, he’s the clear top add. ### Moises Ballesteros (C – CHC) Moises Ballesteros is one of the more interesting stash-and-add candidates, especially for managers looking to upgrade at catcher. The key development here is positional eligibility. The Cubs are a

MLB 2026: What's gone right for Yankees and wrong for Red Sox - ESPN

The Yankees improved to 16-9 with a sweep of the Red Sox at Fenway Park, securing the best record in the AL, while the Red Sox fell to 9-16 and sit in last place in their division.

MLB 2026: What's gone right for Yankees and wrong for Red Sox - ESPN Skip to main content Skip to navigation < > play Cam Schlittler rack up 5 K's over 8 innings vs. Red Sox. (0:38) So far in 2026, the most famous rivalry in Major League Baseball has been one-sided. With a sweep of the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park this week, the New York Yankees improved to 16-9 on the young season, the best record in the American League. The Red Sox, who fell to 9-16, head into the weekend in last place in the AL East. What has gone right for the Yankees -- and wrong for the Red Sox? ESPN MLB experts Jorge Castillo and David Schoenfield break down New York and Boston, respectively. --- ## New York Yankees ## Three things they're getting right so far 1. The starting rotation is elite (and it's going to add two All-Stars soon). The Yankees' 2.59 starter ERA is the best in the majors by a sizable margin (the Los Angeles Dodgers are second at 2.81). The excellence was on display this week at Fenway. Luis Gil, New York's fifth starter, yielded two hits over 6⅓ scoreless innings in Monday's series opener. Max Fried grabbed the baton and was even better, tossing eight scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. For the finale, Cam Schlittler, a revelation in 2025 as a rookie, held the Red Sox to two runs over eight innings to lower his ERA to 1.77 in six starts. Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón, meanwhile, are progressing from their respective elbow surgeries and nearing returns. Cole, who underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2025, surrendered two runs and threw 42 of his 52 pitches for strikes in 4⅓ innings for High-A Hudson Valley in his second rehab start Thursday. Rodón will take the mound for Hudson Valley on Friday for his first rehab start. He had surgery on his left elbow to remove loose bodies and shave down a bone spur. The Yankees project Rodón will join the club by the end of May. Cole is slated for a slightly later return. Should the current rotation stay healthy, Col
